2005 SEASON    

BMO Nesbitt BurnsResurgence Theatre Company was proud to announce the BMO NESBITT BURNS SUMMER PLAY READING SERIES at Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket. In a temporary departure from our regular summer programming, we hosted the following staged readings. Featuring some of Canada's finest professional actors, these events showcased some of the Bard's best-loved plays in a setting that Robert Cushman of The National Post called "magical and enchanting".

Monday, July 25, 2005 - 6:30 p.m.
Fairy Lake Park, Newmarket, ON

One of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies and without a doubt his greatest battle of the sexes. Wealthy Baptista’s youngest daughter Bianca wants to get married but he refuses to allow it until a match is found for his older daughter Kate - a woman known through out the land for her fierce temper and scolding tongue. Petruchio is in search of a wife - a rich one. Can he tame Kate the shrew or will she tame him?

Our first staged reading was a great success. Approximately 200 persons attended.

Sunday, August 7, 2005 - 2:00 p.m.
Fairy Lake Park, Newmarket, ON

The audience witnessed first-hand as Shakespeare’s fairies descend on Fairy Lake. Sparring lovers and conflict in the Fairy Kingdom was played out over the course of one very magical night. The mixture of comedy and romantic adventure, combined with some of his most enduring characters has let this remain as one of Shakespeare’s most popular and beloved plays.

Our second staged reading was an overwhelming success. Approximately 250 persons attended.
