AN EVENING IN VERONA MASQUERADE BALL
LORD CAPULET held an enchanting EVENING IN VERONA MASQUERADE BALL on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the Festival Tent, Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket. Masquerade balls date back to the late medieval court life. Guests would wear both a costume and mask - anonymity was irresistible to a class that was governed by the strictest etiquette and constricting rules of behaviour. They grew into semi-public events by the time of the Renaissance, enabling the nobleman and servant to interact under the cloak of disguise.
Masked patrons were eligible for prizes - bidding on the auction items was brisk - dinner was followed by an Evening Gala Performance of William Shakespeare's tragic love story Romeo & Juliet.
S P E C I A L T H A N K S are extended to our Gala Committee: Lesley Abarquez - Claire Bolton - Susan Bright Kathryn Henkenhaf, Committee Chair - Donna Hopkins - Marie Lauzier - Anthony Leo - Shelley Lundquist - Bridget Mills.
